The 100ABC story – born out of a vision for a brighter future for young girls in South Africa.
As Elin Nodegren stated; “Education is one thing that no one can take away from you”, this remains true in modern South Africa where education outcomes on a broad basis continue to fall short in many parts of the country. The ability to learn is a right every child should enjoy, the excitement in taking in new, interesting and fun information remains paramount in making learning an experience that should be enjoyed.

The birth of 100ABC
It was this that created the motivation to become part of the solution and from there came the birth of 100ABC. An idea that would slowly develop into something meaningful however the key was to start. Partnering with early centres appeared to be the easiest entry, as the children in these systems remains the most vulnerable in our society. Impacting their lives as early as possible and assisting in creating conducive learning environments would be the focal point for the work we would look to do.
The power of education
We have seen the impact of education in South Africa in changing lives, from the young child born into poverty and with no hope, but by being given a chance to enter into the formal education sector and being given the tools to thrive in that space has led to individuals who today are independent, self-sufficient and are true contributors to our broader society.
Broadening horizons through knowledge
Education gives exposure, the impact and exposure to a broader body of knowledge, allows one to leave, albeit for a short period of time the current life circumstances and immerse one into a world which creates ambition and aspirations. Education also leads to the identification of talent, as each and every individual is gifted in different ways. The combination of academically strong children along with those who are gifted in the arts or talented at sport, gives the scope for every child to find a place within society.
Personal development
Education also allows for the development of individuals from a personal perspective, the ability to make life long connections, through the formation of friendships and also the development of social and interpersonal skills.
Challenges in South Africa’s Education System
It remains one of the disappointments that not every child in South Africa attends school, further to that there are those in school who are malnourished and thus making the process of learning ever more difficult. The worst affected amongst this remains the girl child, both from access to education and also access to opportunities to further their studies.
Our Commitment to Making an Impact
It is for these reasons we continue to remain committed to making an impact, as little as it is in our corner of the world, but every Rand raised, every child funded through school we believe has the multiplier effect as the improvement in their lives will have a positive impact on other lives.
