Letter to my child and the life lessons every child needs beyond the classroom

Estimated reading time: 3 minute read.

When I held my children for the first time, I thought about all the lessons I would pass down to them some taught in school, others through the everyday moments we share. As a mother, I quickly realised the classroom would only teach part of the story. The world outside those walls would teach the rest. Some lessons very valuable and others painful
In my medical career, I’ve seen the impact of early learning both academic and social-emotional. While literacy and numeracy are essential, life’s bigger lessons often come through play, relationships, mistakes, and resilience. These are the skills that shape not only what children know, but who they become.
That’s why I wrote this letter. To capture the lessons I hope my sons and all children will carry with them.

Dear Daughter/Son,

I hope you learn that books can take you anywhere even when your feet cannot.

I hope you learn that your body is powerful. It lets you run, jump, and climb toward your dreams. So honour it.

I hope you learn that mistakes are not failures. They are lessons in disguise.

I hope you learn that kindness is never wasted, even when it goes unnoticed.

I hope you learn that every voice matters, especially yours. Speak up for yourself and for others who have no voice.

I hope you learn that not all classrooms have walls. You will learn from the people you meet, the stories you hear, the problems you solve, and the love you give.

And above all, I hope you grow knowing that your worth was never tied to grades, trophies, or praise. It was always yours.

Why these lessons matter:

Movement builds not just strong bodies but also confidence and awareness. It teaches children how to care for their physical and mental health which is a a foundation for lifelong well-being.

Mistakes encourage resilience and growth. They help children develop a growth mindset, turning setbacks into stepping stones and opportunities.

Kindness fosters empathy and connection. Emotional intelligence is an important and vital quality children must attain. Not only for the good of humanity but because it strengthens relationships and helps build inclusive, supportive communities.

Leadership gives children the voice and courage to shape their world. Speaking up, standing up for others, and making positive changes are skills every young leader needs.
At 100ABC, we create spaces where children can learn these lessons beyond the classroom. Through mentorship, tutoring and donations, leadership activities we hope our contribution foster not just knowledge, but wisdom. Our programs empower children to grow not only as students but as resilient, curious, and compassionate individuals.
As both a mother and a doctor, I know we can’t prepare children for every challenge. But we can prepare them to meet challenges with strength, curiosity, and kindness.

Love, 100ABC and everyone who believes in your future.

Join us in this mission. Together, let’s raise not just students, but future leaders.
