My first interaction with an educational based computer devise (we only played computer games on the desktop we had at home) was in my grade 8 year of high school back in 1994. I wish I had taken these sessions more seriously, my transition into university would have been a lot easier. Imagine thinking you know how to use a computer only to fail a Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint aptitude test in your 1st year of University, after having attended a very prestigious high school.
Fast forward to 2025 (31 years later) and the digital age has evolved into so much more than what one could ever have imagined. Where is learning going? What are the trends? How do we equip the current population of school going age with tools adequate enough for them to thrive in the digital age, beyond school and beyond tertiary.
Who would ever have imagined the overnight phenomenon that is Artificial Intelligence (as an enabler of human efficiency, AI is here to stay by the way). How is AI transforming learning in 2025? AI powered learning tools require educational institutions and educators to rethink how learning is designed, delivered and measured. A few ways in which AI is transforming the educational process is as follows:
- Personalised Learning Journeys
- AI powered educational tools can deliver training that adapts in real time to every learners ability, progress and interest. As such learning content personalised to each learners journey, skills and needs can be created.
- Efficient, Adaptable Content Creation
- AI is quickly able to create quality educational content that is able to monitor a students learning progress in a particular focus area (e.g. through quizzes). AI allows a fresh and easily adaptable approach for educators to keep educational content relevant and interesting.
AI is already reshaping the future of educational development, from content creation through to personalised learner experiences. With opportunity comes responsibility, educators require a balanced approach when it comes to embracing the potential of AI tools when it comes to learner education. Impact and success will require adherence to governance, collaboration and continuous review and improvement.
As educators explore the top learning technology trends, they should prioritize platforms and practices that align with school values, goals, and workforce needs. The future of education will not be defined by technology alone but by how intelligently and ethically that technology is applied when engaging a learner.
